Colinton Local History Society

Colinton has its own Local History Society which normally meets on the first and third Mondays of the month in the Loan Hall, Dreghorn Loan at 8pm.  The aim of the speaker programme is to amuse and educate us about Colinton and the surrounding area.

For more details about the Society contact Derek Douglas on 0131 441 3335.

As mentioned in the Jan-Feb issue of the Church BULLETIN, our Zoom meetings have been continuing at a pace with audiences of from 38 to 46 folk on each occasion.
The talk from Craig Statham about Maps & Local History, which took place in January, proved very popular, with many of our Members going into the NLS website to investigate some of the facilities which he had shown.  This was followed in February by Paul Cockburn, the Editor of C&B News, a local community magazine, with an enlightening talk about the Expansion of Edinburgh in 1920.  The second of our February talks was about Innerpeffray Library, by Lara Haggerty.  The library is to be found in the hamlet of Innerpeffray near Perth and is very well worth a visit, once all the restrictions are lifted. You can find out more about it on their website. The View from Arthur’s Seat talk by Stuart McHardly was on 1st March.
The final talk is by Prof. Murray Pittock who will present Edinburgh’s Enlightenment on 15th March.
The AGM will take place on the 5th April.
