The Church and how we are organised
Colinton Church is a registered Charity. Members of the Kirk Session are the trustees of the Charity. Elders are elected to the Kirk Session by the congregation. The role of the Elder is to support the Minister by being responsible for the spiritual and practical aspects of Church life, including pastoral care, and for local church government. Being an Elder is a demanding but rewarding role - and an important part of the Church of Scotland in its team ministry.
Responsibilities for supporting aspects of the Church life extend beyond the elders to various groups. Our Church Visitor Scheme ensures that each street in Colinton has a parish neighbour - someone who is on hand to welcome new families into the community and to act as a link between that street and Colinton Parish Church. Information about other people who play an important part in the life and management of our Church can be found in the "who is who" section.
