Leaders
Over 50 voluntary leaders, give of their time and commitment in leading our different groups. Leaders undergo a strict selection procedure before they are appointed as children or youth leaders. Volunteers are interviewed and undertake an Enhanced Disclosure Scotland Check. Before appointment leaders are trained in child protection and this training, as well as regular supervision, is ongoing through an individual Personal Development Programme.
Baptismal, Children’s & Youth Elders have been appointed to help support and care for the young people connected to the church and its groups.
Child Protection
The Church of Scotland has adopted the following Policy Statement:
"The Church of Scotland has a deep concern for the wholeness and well-being of each individual. It seeks to safeguard the welfare of all people, regardless of age, who come into contact with the Church and its organisations. It is the responsibility of each individual within the fellowship of the Church to prevent the physical, sexual or emotional abuse of children and young people."
The pursuit and promotion of the aims are the responsibility of all adult members of the Church and not just those who work directly with children and young people. Colinton Kirk Session has adopted and is implementing this statement through various measures. The pursuit and promotion of the aims are the responsibility of all adult members of the Church and not just those who work directly with children and young people.
